Beginners welcome! Discover the beauty of fall through handcrafted jewelry inspired by the natural materials found around San Diego. In this class, Instructor Ursula Koenig wil guide you as you learn to create your own custom autumn pendant using dried plants, wood bezels, and glass lenses—no resin, only simple glue. Your pendant’s colors and textures will guide the design of your bead necklace as you explore ribbons, cords, crimps, and beading lines to bring your piece to life. All skill levels are welcome. Feel free to bring any of your own beads to possibly incorporate into your botanical necklace, bracelet or earrings. Depending on each student’s speed and skills, students may create up to 3 finished projects.
As you work with your hands, you’ll learn a step‑by‑step process that encourages relaxation, creative visualization, and thoughtful design. Bead colors and textures become your palette, while technical skills—wire wrapping, knotting, memory wire, and more—help transform your ideas into wearable art. We use natural materials such as semi‑precious stones, wood, shells, pearls, and upcycled vintage elements, and we take time to explore ancient jewelry history and the origins of the stones.

Ursula will have a variety of jewelry-making supplies for sale in case you would like to continue creating on your own at home.

Ages 12+years, 8+years welcome with an adult.

This course may be held outdoors or indoors, depending on the weather, so we suggest:
• Dress in layers so you can adjust to the temperature.
• Bring water/beverage and a snack if you need to be comfortable.
• Wear comfortable clothes.

DIRECTIONS: Located in Liberty Station’s Arts District, you can find our studio at the end of the hallway on the 1st floor of the Dorothea Laub Music & Arts Center (Bldg 176) at the corner of Roosevelt & Truxtun, next to The Lot movie theater. There is plenty of free parking. Parking Lot Q is behind our studio — enter via the driveway off Dewey. Across the street in the Vons parking lot, it is also free. REFUNDS: No refunds for tardiness or no-shows. For a refund (minus a 5% processing fee), you must notify us via email 7 days before the start of the class. After 7 days, we cannot offer refunds, as materials and supplies have already been purchased.

TRANSFERS: You may transfer your enrollment spot to someone else, but transfers must happen before the workshop begins. Please email us to let us know who’s coming.

ABOUT THE INSTRUCTOR:

Ursula Koenig, Jewelry Design Instructor, creates a small artisan line of one of a kind jewelry, a passionate exercise for over 30 years. Exhibits include places that provide inspiration for the pieces, such as coastal artisan events, wineries and private trunk shows. When teaching others, sessions include adding to your jewelry wardrobe working with colorful semi precious stone gems, metals and more. Learn to design jewelry that can be worn to so many occasions, bringing light to the wearer and purposefully designed to open up conversations. All skill levels are welcome. The inspirations of the designs will come from the ranches and coasts of Southern California and Baja.
