Learn the ancient fiber craft of weaving your own fabric using a sustainably harvested wooden Rigid Heddle Loom and soft natural fibers. In his hands-on workshop, instructor Jeanine Ertl will teach you everything you need to know to warp and weave on your own. This class is perfect for anyone who’s been curious about weaving beyond a lap loom and wants to learn the warping and weaving processes. We’ll dive into fiber & fabric and demystify the process of getting set up (otherwise known as warping a loom), weaving, and finally, finishing and removing a woven fiber good from the loom! And, you’ll go home with handwoven fabric in-hand. Length of the final piece will depend on the individual’s own pace.

In this workshop you’ll learn:
* How a Rigid Heddle Loom works;
* How to Plan a Textile (e.g. sett, basic pattern & choosing fiber, etc.)
* How to Warp a Rigid Heddle;
* How to Weave;
* How to Remove your Woven;
* And, How to Finish a freshly Handwoven Textile.

All materials to warp & weave a sample included for use.
No experience necessary. Ages 14+ welcome!

OPTION: Students will weave on Ashford looms. The instructor will have a variety of Ashford looms (Sample It and Knitters Looms) present for purchase in class. Please contact Jeanine at aninidesigns@gmail.com if you have any questions or specific looms you’re interested in beforehand.

ABOUT THE INSTRUCTOR:
Always interested in finding ways to add harmony, beauty and depth to my life and space, my journey with fiber and textiles began as a child. I adored piles of colorful yarn and fabric. I had always felt, that in some other life, I’d been someone who breathed life into these mediums. As my path wound its way, I fell in love with the nature of story and pursued Literature & Ethnic Studies at UC Berkeley. After Peace Corps service in a tiny village in the Amazon Rainforest, I returned to California and spent the next decade working, starting a family, and eventually, exploring fiber arts. I learned to weave at a Cistercian monastery on the Lost Coast of California, and quickly found my life-long passion. I am nurtured, connected and aligned while weaving. And Intuitive Weaving, as I call it, has been a place of unpacking emotions; subconsciously discovering new frontiers; understanding intertwinement; and learning to be gracious, not just with the world, but with myself. My small business, ANINI Designs, now specializes in offering a variety of craft supplies — natural dyes, natural fiber dyeables, and handwoven &/or hand-dyed textiles. I enjoy creating a sustainable, eco-friendly, inspiring future of mindfully making, exploring and teaching these craft mediums to you. – Jeanine Ertl, Owner, Weaver, Natural Dyer & Educator at ANINI Designs

    I took this class last summer and it was excellent. The instructor was very flexible and helpful (I had brought my own loom I had just bought), and showed us ways to warp I would have had a hard time figuring out on my own. She also shared her sources, had small looms for sale, and it was really fun to learn with others. I highly recommend this class as a way to get started on these simple, but useful rigid heddle looms. It’s addictive!
