In this 3-hour workshop, beginners are invited to explore weaving a length of fabric on a rigid heddle loom. Students will learn how a rigid heddle loom works and how to weave the oldest textile structure, plain weave, learning about the interlocking of warp (the yarn set-up woven upon) and weft (yarn that passes horizontally that one weaves with). Students will spend the majority of the class practicing and honing best weaving practices for balance between warp and weft, clean selvedges and proper ergonomics. Each student will have the opportunity to weave up to 36 inches of fabric. Students are welcome to bring yarn of their choice to incorporate into their weaving as weft. Warp and weft fiber provided will include: 100% cotton yarn.
All materials to weave a textile or length of fabric are included for use.
No experience necessary. Ages 10+ welcome!

OPTION: Students will weave on Ashford looms. The instructor will have a variety of Ashford looms present for purchase in class. Please contact Jeanine at aninidesigns@gmail.com if you have any questions or specific looms you’re interested in beforehand.

ABOUT THE INSTRUCTOR:
Always interested in finding ways to add harmony, beauty and depth to my life and space, my journey with fiber and textiles began as a child. I adored piles of colorful yarn and fabric. I had always felt that in some other life, I’d been someone who breathed life into these mediums. As my path wound its way, I eventually dove headfirst into fiber arts, learning to weave at a Cistercian monastery on the Lost Coast of California. I am nurtured, connected and aligned while handmaking. My small business, ANINI Designs, specializes in offering a variety of craft supplies–natural dyes, natural fiber dyeables, and handwoven &/or hand-dyed textiles. I enjoy creating a sustainable, eco-friendly, inspiring future of mindfully making, exploring and teaching these craft mediums to you. – Jeanine Ertl
