Sewing | Intermediate Sewing: Draft & Sew a Tiered Skirt$175.00 Learn to draft & sew your own tiered skirt! Select a date from the drop-down menu. Learn how to design and sew a breezy, custom-fit skirt from start to finish! In this class, students will draft their own pattern pieces for a tiered skirt using simple body measurements—no commercial pattern required. We’ll cover how to calculate fabric needs, create evenly gathered tiers, and sew them together for a professional finish. You’ll also learn how to insert an elastic waistband for a comfortable and stylish fit. By the end of class, you’ll have a beautiful handmade skirt and the confidence to draft it again in any length or style you like. Skills you will learn: * Drafting a simple skirt pattern using measurements * Cutting and assembling tiered panels * Gathering fabric evenly * Attaching tiers with clean seams * Inserting an elastic waistband This workshop is perfect for sewists who want to practice drafting, gathering, and finishing techniques while creating a versatile wardrobe staple. REQUIREMENT: This series is an intermediate-level, and students must have completed Family & Beginners Sewing 101 | Sewing Machine Basics AND Sewing | Family & Beginners Sewing 102: Cut, Press & Hem before enrolling. If you already have sewing skills from another studio or life experience, you must have a working knowledge of how to use and thread a sewing machine, how to find a correct seam allowance, as well as how to cut, press and hem a sewing project. This class is for teens to adults, as slightly more complicated math is involved in this class (you will be guided through it). FABRIC OPTION: All materials are included, however, if you’d like to bring your own fabric to sew with, students must bring at minimum 2.5-3.5 yards of fabric, fabric must be 55-60″ wide. Suggested fabrics for a tiered skirt are lightweight woven fabrics like cotton lawn, voile, linen, rayon challis, or silk (or silky type fabrics) to ensure a good drape and flow. Avoid very heavy or stiff fabrics (bottomweights), as they won’t create the soft, gathered effect typical of tiered skirts. Quilting cotton and stretch knit fabrics are not suitable for this project. MACHINE OPTION: It’s ideal to learn on your own sewing machine, but you may also borrow and learn on one of ours. Please note, if bringing your own sewing machine it is very important to make sure it is fully functional. You will need all the cords, the manual, the presser foot, at least 1 bobbin and the bobbin case. Check this ahead of time. Materials included. This class is appropriate for ages 14 years and older. Please be punctual to this class. Students who show up more than 15 minutes late will not be able to catch up, and will be turned away to keep the class on schedule. Plan ahead for traffic and parking. • Military, first responders and sibling discounts: Email us for more information. • Scholarships available: Click here for an application. • Homeschool funds accepted: Click here for enrollment details. • If this class is full, join the Interest List to be notified. • If you would like to be notified of future offerings, join the Interest List to be notified when new dates or spaces are available.
