Join instructor Suzanne Balestri to learn the basics of Fused Glass and create your own glass jewelry to keep for yourself or give as a gift. This fun workshop offers a perfect introduction to Kiln-Formed (fused) glass for beginners, and allows those who have worked with glass before to hone their abilities and finesse their skills. You will learn how fused glass differs from other forms of art glass, how to use the various tools involved in creating glass art, and how to cut and grind the glass you will be using in your wearable art project. Using a colorful array of glass and pre-fired adornments, you’ll construct abstract or representational designs to be fashioned into earrings, pendants, rings, cuff links, even belt buckles! Each student will have plenty of space in the kiln for several items! Your pieces will be fired in a glass kiln to completely fuse each design into one solid piece, and will be ready for you to pick up the following week.

Workshop fee includes pre-workshop instructional videos, all glass, equipment, and kiln firing of several pieces.

An additional supply fee of $10 (cash only) is due to instructor at the workshop. It includes pre-fused adornments plus jewelry findings for up to 3 items (excluding leather for bracelets/belts). Additional findings, chains, cording, and leather for bracelets and belts will also be available for cash purchase.

This workshop is recommended for All Skill Levels – Ages 13 and up. Children 8+ years welcome with adult. Beginners welcome!

ABOUT THE INSTRUCTOR:

A native Californian, Suzanne Balestri was an interior designer when she first began her explorations with kiln-formed (or “fused”) glass. After taking a glass workshop for fun in 2006, it didn’t take long for her passion for the medium to ignite. Before she knew it, she was selling her work in over 50 boutiques and galleries across the country. Suzanne later shifted her focus to concentrate on personal artistic endeavors, and in 2017 began teaching the medium through various local art institutions and corporate team-building events. Suzanne’s style demonstrates a “powerful grace” influenced by her dedication to yoga and whole wellness, while her interior design background has refined her eye for color arrangement and clean design. “Melding a classic process with a modern touch rejuvenates my soul. When I work with glass to transform it into art, I step into a haven for nurturing and creative expression.” Suzanne graduated from San Diego State University with a BS in Marketing; minor in Advertising. She also received her BFA at Design Institute of San Diego.
