Common Threads: A Weaving and Wellness Circle for Teen Girls$0.00 The series dates are: April 23, April 30, May 7, May 14, May 21, May 28 | 4:00 – 6:00 PM This 6-week weaving and wellness program is designed for teen girls ages 13–18 and meets once a week for a 2-hour session in a welcoming group space. Participants are expected to attend all six weeks, as the experience is meant to unfold over time, allowing relationships, shared understanding, and confidence to grow. Throughout the 6-week program, teens will learn the art of weaving while gathering in supportive listening circles. The program fosters creativity and connection with the intention to reduce stress. Sessions are co-facilitated by a weaving instructor and a professional from Avani Counseling, who will help guide conversations that invite curiosity and self-reflection. With hands engaged in the rhythm of the loom, participants have space to explore the stories shaping their lives — stories about friendships, stress, emotions, and challenges of everyday teen life. Participants will practice identifying their strengths, values, resiliencies, and relationships that help them feel connected and grounded, highlighting the ways in which they already cope, care, and grow. This program offers more than a chance to learn a new craft – it offers a space to honor each participant as the author of her own story, nurtures connection, values self-expression, and supports confidence-building. By the end of the six weeks, participants will showcase their woven pieces with family and friends at an exhibition party and then take home their own woven pieces – tangible reflections of the care, creativity, insight, and shared moments woven throughout their time together. By enrolling, you are committing to attend all 6 weeks from 4-6pm. Confirm the dates above. The exhibition party will be on June 6th from 4 – 6pm. Family and friends are welcome to come see the beautiful work you’ve made! ABOUT THE FACILITATORS: Jeanine Ertl: “Always interested in finding ways to add harmony, beauty and depth to my life and space, my journey with fiber and textiles began as a child.I adored piles of colorful yarn and fabric.I had always felt that in some other life, I’d been someone who breathed life into these mediums. As my path wound its way, I eventually dove headfirst into fiber arts, learning to weave at a Cistercian monastery on the Lost Coast of California. I am nurtured, connected and aligned while handmaking. My small business, ANINI Designs, specializes in offering a variety of craft supplies–natural dyes, natural fiber dyeables, and handwoven &/or hand-dyed textiles. I enjoy creating a sustainable, eco-friendly, inspiring future of mindfully making, exploring and teaching these craft mediums to you.” Melda Baysal Walsh: “I have always enjoyed helping people explore their stories, strengths, and identities. Having spent much of my life in multicultural spaces, I bring a deep appreciation for diversity, curiosity, and understanding different perspectives. In my role as Senior Associate Marriage and Family Therapist at Avani Counseling, I continue to follow my passion for helping people navigate relationships and life’s challenges. I look forward to facilitating this teen workshop and support teen girls as they navigate friendships, self-esteem, family dynamics, and the challenges and beauties of growing up. I encourage resilience, empathy, and self-compassion, helping teens feel more confident in who they are and how they move through life’s changes.” https://www.avanicounseling.com/melda/ Tara Aliahmadi: “I have always been drawn to crafts and making things with my hands. Since I was a child, creating with simple materials, such as yarn, paper, paint, or fabric, has been a way for me to slow down and feel grounded. Whenever life feels overwhelming, I often find myself reaching for a canvas, a sketchbook, or some kind of craft project to reconnect with myself. Although I never pursued craft as a serious path, it has always been a quiet and meaningful part of my life. In a beautiful and unexpected way, it now shows up again in my work with teens. Working with teenagers has become something I truly enjoy since beginning my work in counseling and school-based settings. I appreciate the honesty, curiosity, and growth that happen during these years of life. I feel grateful to help create spaces where teens can connect with themselves and with one another, reflect on their experiences, and discover the strengths and stories that shape who they are becoming.” https://www.avanicounseling.com/tara/ Reviews There are no reviews yet.
