Wooden Brush Making$175.00 Select a date from the drop-down menu. Join us in the woodshop for this 5-hour brush making workshop! We will cover shop safety and how to use various machines such as the bandsaw, spindle sander, edge sander, and drill press. You will hone your carving skills by adding curves and texture to your piece. We will build upon machine knowledge and cover wood shaping using various hand tools such as rasps, files, spoke shaves, hand planes, chisels, and gouges. We will also discuss design principles, functional applications, the properties of wood, and brush materials such as Tampico fibers. At the end of the workshop, each student will leave with a unique brush to be used in the home, the shop, or as a beautiful sculpture or gift. Materials are provided. We recommend students bring their own eye protection, ear protection & apron. Aprons for sale here. No experience necessary. Ages 18+ welcome. We work with windows open. • Bring water/beverage. • Wear closed-toe shoes — dropping tools on toes really hurts! • Long hair must be tied back. • Do not wear clothing with flowy sleeves and no dangly jewelry as these items can get caught on tools and machines. DIRECTIONS: Located in Liberty Station’s Arts District, you can find our studio at the end of the hallway on the 1st floor of the Dorothea Laub Music & Arts Center (Bldg 176) at the corner of Roosevelt & Truxtun, next to The Lot movie theater. There is plenty of free parking. Parking Lot Q is behind our studio — enter via the driveway off Dewey. Across the street in the Vons parking lot, it is also free. If you can’t find us, call or text 619.273.3235. CLASS SIZE: 3 min. If the minimum is not met, you will receive a full refund or credit toward another class. REFUNDS: No refunds for tardiness or no-shows. For a refund (minus a 5% processing fee), you must cancel 7 days before the start of the class. After 7 days, we cannot offer refunds, as materials and supplies have already been purchased. ABOUT THE INSTRUCTOR: Aleya Lanteigne (she/they) is a queer artist originally from Indianapolis Indiana, who currently lives and works in San Diego California. They are a graduate of San Diego State University (MFA-Furniture Design and Woodworking) and Herron School of Art and Design (BFAs-Furniture Design and Sculpture). They have shown work across the country, from Washington D.C to Los Angeles, and are involved in the local Arts community in San Diego.
