Stained glass is unusual among the arts because of its direct relationship with light. When light passes through colored glass, different values, textures, and densities combine to form an extraordinary palette. Explore this magic by creating your own unique leaded stained-glass panel. In this 7-week course, you will learn from stained glass professional Lisa Maywood as you complete one or more 2-dimensional panels that will transform any room or space.

The enrollment fee covers the cost of basic drawing materials, lead, solder, cement, and the use of the tools and machinery.
Glass will be procured by each student on their own outside of class. Blue Dolphin Glass is a great local source in San Diego.
If you prefer your own supplies, please bring your own colored pencils and paper that is larger than 12″x12″ to the first class as you plan your project(s).
It is also recommended that you bring your own safety gear (eye protection, dust mask, gloves). We have eye protection available if you do not have your own.

There is no prerequisite for this class.
Ages 18+years welcome.

ABOUT THE INSTRUCTOR:

Lisa Maywood discovered stained glass in high school. After graduating from USC with a BA in Communication Arts and Sciences, she took a six-year detour in advertising, before returning to her original calling: stained glass.

In 1999, Lisa moved to Europe to study at the Ecole de Vitrail et de Creation, in Monthey, Switzerland. Surrounded by centuries-old churches and cathedrals, she learned the techniques and traditions of the craftsmen who built the stained glass windows of Chartres, Lausanne and Notre Dame. Upon, completing a three-year intensive program in drawing, painting, design and all aspects of the stained glass process, Lisa returned to San Diego and founded her Liberty Station studio, Verre Designs. Over the years, she has restored windows in churches such as St. James by-the-Sea Episcopal Church in La Jolla, and designed and repaired leaded windows for houses both vintage and modern throughout San Diego. She also produces art pieces and decorative objects in leaded and fused glass.

Lisa has shown her work at the Swiss Museum of Stained Glass in Romont, Switzerland and the Centre International du Vitrail, in Chartres, France. Lisa has been teaching stained glass classes in San Diego for 19 years.
