Beginners welcome! Ages 15+years! A refreshing twist on traditional massage bars, these invigorating creations combine cooling menthol crystals, aromatic eucalyptus and peppermint, warming pepper and camphor. Instructor Chelsea Lööw guides students through the process, from start to finish. Learn to blend organic beeswax, carrier oils, and butters to create your own solid massage bars, designed to melt against the skin and deliver a wonderfully stimulating massage experience. You will make two palm-sized massage bars—keep one for luxurious self-care and gift the other one! Bonus: We’ll learn to fold origami masu boxes for storage and gifting massage bars.

A note about ingredients and sensitivities: This workshop introduces a range of plant-based oils and butters like sweet almond, coconut, jojoba, avocado, and/or moringa oils as well as butters such as shea and cupuaçu. Because individual allergies and sensitivities vary, please let us know about any known seed, nut, or botanical allergies when you register. We’ll review the ingredient list and help you choose the ones that best suit you!

This course is held indoors, so we suggest:
• Dress in layers so you can adjust to the studio temperature.
• Bring water/beverage and a snack if you need to be comfortable.
• Wear comfortable clothes.

DIRECTIONS: Located in Liberty Station’s Arts District, you can find our studio at the end of the hallway on the 1st floor of the Dorothea Laub Music & Arts Center (Bldg 176) at the corner of Roosevelt & Truxtun, next to The Lot movie theater. There is plenty of free parking. Parking Lot Q is behind our studio — enter via the driveway off Dewey. Across the street in the Vons parking lot, it is also free. If you can’t find us, call or text 619.273.3235.

REFUNDS: No refunds for tardiness or no-shows. For a refund (minus a 5% processing fee), you must cancel 7 days before the start of the class. After 7 days, we cannot offer refunds, as materials and supplies have already been purchased.

TRANSFERS: You may transfer your enrollment spot to someone else, but transfers must happen before the workshop begins. Please email us to let us know who’s coming.

ABOUT THE INSTRUCTOR:

Mother, maker, traveler, teacher, beekeeper. Born and raised here in San Diego, Chelsea Lööw is the founder of Beauty & the Bees, her Swedish beekeeping company founded in 2013. An adventurous spirit has taken her many places in life and led her to experiment with a range of artistic media, from photography and creative writing to linocutting and sewing, but she’s especially keen on beeswax-based products from the hive. Believing that nature is the ultimate designer, she endeavors to mirror its perfect-imperfection, appreciate its ingenuity, and connect with its flow.
