Get cozy and creative this Fall with a hands-on candle-making workshop designed for both beginners and experienced makers. In this seasonal edition, Instructor K.C. will teach the fundamentals while you create your own candles. You’ll choose from a variety of cozy fall scents and seasonal vessel options, giving you the opportunity to create candles that are not only beautiful and fragrant, but perfect for the season. In this hands-on workshop, we’ll cover:

  • The basics of working with soy wax
  • The difference between fragrance oils and essential oils
  • How to properly melt, pour, and set your candles
  • Wick selection and placement for a clean, even burn
  • How to safely add fragrance and achieve a well-scented candle
  • How to work with different vessel styles, including seasonal novelty vessels
  • Troubleshooting common candle-making mistakes so your candles turn out just right

    Whether you’re drawn to warm and comforting fragrances or something sweet and festive, there will be plenty of options to get you into the Fall spirit. By the end of class, you’ll head home with two of your own handcrafted candles (8.5 ounces and 4 ounces), new candle-making skills, and practical tips to continue creating at home. This class is perfect for beginners looking to learn the fundamentals, as well as intermediate makers who want to explore new scents, vessels, and techniques.

    No experience necessary. Ages 15+ welcome, or ages 12+yrs with an adult!

    This course will be held outdoors, so we suggest:
    • Dress in layers so you can adjust to the temperature.
    • Bring water/beverage and a snack if you need to be comfortable.
    • Wear comfortable clothes.

    DIRECTIONS: Located in Liberty Station’s Arts District, you can find our studio at the end of the hallway on the 1st floor of the Dorothea Laub Music & Arts Center (Bldg 176) at the corner of Roosevelt & Truxtun, next to The Lot movie theater. There is plenty of free parking. Parking Lot Q is behind our studio — enter via the driveway off Dewey. Across the street in the Vons parking lot, it is also free. If you can’t find us, call or text 619.273.3235.

    CLASS SIZE: 4 min. If the minimum is not met, you will receive a full refund or credit toward another class.

    REFUNDS: No refunds for tardiness or no-shows. For a refund (minus a 5% processing fee), you must cancel 7 days before the start of the class. After 7 days, we cannot offer refunds, as materials and supplies have already been purchased.

    TRANSFERS: You may transfer your enrollment spot to someone else, but transfers must happen before the workshop begins. Please email us to let us know who’s coming.

    ABOUT THE INSTRUCTOR:

    Hi, I’m K.C., the owner and creator of K.C. Essentials, originally based in Los Angeles and now in my hometown of San Diego CA. I handcraft 100% soy candles with love, using dried flowers, herbs, and sometimes even sage to create my signature intention candles. They can be used for holistic and spiritual practices or just to add a little extra vibe and fun to your space.

    I’ve been teaching candle-making and consulting for almost 6 years now, both virtually and in person. I’m well known for my teachings at General Wax & Candle Co. I have also made teaching appearances at Candle Corner. Teaching and crafting are two my greatest joys in life. Whether you’re making your very first candle, looking to start a business, or just want a creative outlet, sharing my craft with others always reminds me why I started in the first place. My goal is to make candle-making approachable, fun, and meaningful. When you learn with me, you’ll leave not just with candles, but with the knowledge and confidence to keep creating on your own.
