MENDING & SEWING Creating, altering & repairing, renewing and reinforcing textiles San Diego Craft Collective offers a growing Mending & Sewing Program that shares the creativity, fulfillment, and joy of this versatile craft with learners of all ages. Working with thread and fabric, sewists create the everyday items we rely on, inviting makers of all skill levels to explore sewing for themselves. Our program is supported by a dedicated community of skilled sewists, menders, and fiber artists who love working with their hands and teaching others. We prioritize eco‑friendly materials and sustainable studio practices, often using secondhand supplies to build skills and spark creativity. Mending & Sewing for Children The Craft Collective offers a range of creative learning opportunities for children, including weekly Afterschool Classes, Workshops and seasonal Craft Camps. Our Fiber Arts classes introduce age‑appropriate techniques that spark curiosity and creativity. Monthly Kids Sewing Skills, 8-12yrs offers a rotating series of fun, hands‑on projects that help children explore soft materials and build confidence in handmaking. Mending & Sewing for Teens & Adults The Craft Collective offers a wide range of fiber arts classes throughout the year, including a weekly Teens Sewing & Garment Construction, 13-17yrs class, where teens learn machine sewing skills to explore making their own clothes. Students will gain confidence using a sewing machine; practice essential techniques like seam finishes, hems, and zippers; and explore how to read and follow a garment pattern, while working on beginner-friendly garment projects that build real sewing skills and result in wearable pieces. Recurring Fiber Arts Workshops & Courses MENDING Welcome to our Mending Program — a long‑imagined project after eight years of dreaming, planning, and building community! This program invites you to explore mending, upcycling, and refreshing well‑loved items in creative, sustainable ways. Whether you’re repairing a favorite garment, giving new purpose to something tucked away in your closet, or learning techniques that help reduce waste, this program reflects our nonprofit mission at the Craft Collective: sharing craft with San Diego and beyond while weaving sustainability and eco‑friendly practices into everything we do. We hope you’ll join us this season and engage with mending in whatever way fits your interests — through Community Mending, a Mending Open Studio session &/or a specialty mending & upcycling workshop, or simply by learning alongside our community. Come mend with us! First Friday Community Mending Every First Friday from 4-7pm, everyone is welcome to the studio for our *free* Community Mending session! We recommend you bring a piece of clothing or a textile you’d like to repair or refresh, and enjoy learning simple techniques alongside our community. This free session is open to everyone–ages 15+years (kids under 15 years are welcome with an adult). Come learn and share mending techniques while working on projects. Learn more here! Mending Open Studio Join us for a Mending Open Studio! These free mending sessions are a welcoming space where you can work on your mending pile or creative upcycling projects while getting guidance from experienced sewists. Bring a clothing item or textile you’d like to repair, embellish, or refresh. Learn new techniques to explore. We look forward to mending with you! This session has a limited amount of spaces, so save your space today! This session is open to everyone–ages 12+years (kids ages 6-11 years with an assisting adult). Specialty Mending Classes Each month we offer a specialty mending workshop (sometimes more than one per month). These classes are taught by talented instructors who love to share their passion for upcycling and breathing new life into our most-loved items! From July 2026 through July 2027, these classes will be discounted 25-50% off. Join us for a fun, hands-on mending class this season!
