No experience necessary. Ages 18+ welcome! This course is for those that are seeking a well-rounded introduction into woodworking during a weekly session as we prioritize safety while learning the craft of woodworking in a slower-paced and more in-depth class setting than the Intro to the Woodshop offering. This course also results in a finished cutting board to cherish along with your own push stick for the tablesaw. Over the course of 7 weeks, students are taught the necessary skills to feel comfortable working independently in the woodshop.  Students learn safe operation of the miter saw, jointer, planer, tablesaw, bandsaw and orbital sanders. The course will utilize standard woodworking techniques to make a push stick for the tablesaw and a cutting board made from domestic hardwoods.
This class qualifies as a prerequisite for Woodshop Open Studio and is encouraged for further woodworking classes to establish safe practices in our studio.

San Diego Craft Collective, 2590 Truxtun Rd., Studio 106, SD 92106 • 619.273.3235 • team@sandiegocraft.org

This workshop is held indoors in our woodshop, so we suggest:
• Dress in layers so you can adjust to the studio temperature. We work with the windows open.
• Bring water/beverage if you need to be comfortable.
• Wear closed-toe shoes — dropping tools on toes really hurts!
• Long hair must be tied back.
• Do not wear clothing with flowy sleeves and no dangly jewelry as these items can get caught on tools and machines.
• An apron is recommended. You may borrow, or buy an apron in our studio. You can buy one here.

DIRECTIONS: Located in Liberty Station’s Arts District, you can find our studio at the end of the hallway on the 1st floor of the Dorothea Laub Music & Arts Center (Bldg 176) at the corner of Roosevelt & Truxtun, next to The Lot movie theater. There is plenty of free parking. Parking Lot Q is behind our studio — enter via the driveway off Dewey. Across the street in the Vons parking lot, it is also free. If you can’t find us, call or text 619.273.3235.

CLASS SIZE: 3 min. If the minimum is not met, you will receive a full refund or credit toward another class.

REFUNDS: No refunds for tardiness or no-shows. For a refund (minus a 5% processing fee), you must cancel 7 days before the start of the class. After 7 days, we cannot offer refunds, as materials and supplies have already been purchased.

TRANSFERS: You may transfer your enrollment spot to someone else, but transfers must happen before the workshop begins. Please email us to let us know who’s coming.

INTEREST LIST: If a class is full or you would like to be notified of future offerings, join our Interest List to be notified when new dates or spaces are available.

ABOUT THE INSTRUCTOR:

Woodworking has deep roots, passed down through the generations. I started as a teen and have kept up the hobby ever since and have enjoyed sharing and teaching it with those who have a passion for trying new things. Outside of the woodshop, I am an avid outdoors enthusiast and work as a marine biologist. – Jordan Colby
