We are excited to offer this interdisciplinary woodworking workshop specifically designed for Fiber Fest, our community celebration of wool and fiber arts. Join us in our vibrant 2400-square-foot studio for a hands-on woodworking project created to support your unique weaving journey. In this two-hour session, you will step into our woodshop to create two of your own custom, handmade wooden stick shuttles. This class is a fantastic way to bridge the gap between woodworking and fiber arts while learning from our team of skilled craftspeople. Under the guidance of a woodworking instructor, you will learn essential shop skills including how to safely operate a drill press and perform precision cutting with a coping saw and/or pull saw. You will also practice shaping and refining wood using rasps and files before mastering sanding best practices to ensure a smooth, fiber-friendly finish on your completed projects. By the end of the workshop, each student will have completed two functional weaving shuttles ready for use. If you are a new weaver—or returning to the craft after a hiatus—this workshop serves as the perfect companion to an afternoon of weaving in an Intro to Weaving Fabric on a Rigid Heddle Loom class. This class is ideal for ages 12+. All materials included. This workshop is part of Craft Collective’s 3rd annual Fiber Fest! Join in the main day of festivities on Saturday, May 16th, for a day filled with fiber fun! It’ll be a vibrant celebration of natural textiles and sustainability, bringing together fiber artists, artisans, sustainability advocates, and local farmers. On May 16th, we’ll host a live demonstration of sheep shearing, live artist-artisan demonstrations, interactive craft for families, artist vendors and more. This event is designed to build community within the Southern California Fibershed, showcasing the journey of natural textiles from sheep to finished fabric. Learn more here! DIRECTIONS: Located in Liberty Station’s Arts District, you can find our studio at the end of the hallway on the 1st floor of the Dorothea Laub Music & Arts Center (Bldg 176) at the corner of Roosevelt & Truxtun, next to The Lot movie theater. There is plenty of free parking. Parking Lot Q is behind our studio — enter via the driveway off Dewey. Across the street in the Vons parking lot, it is also free. If you can’t find us, call or text 619.273.3235. CLASS SIZE: 3 min. If the minimum is not met, you will receive a full refund or credit toward another class. REFUNDS: No refunds for tardiness or no-shows. For a refund (minus a 5% processing fee), you must cancel 7 days before the start of the class. After 7 days, we cannot offer refunds, as materials and supplies have already been purchased.
