Clay Open Studio is an opportunity for students to practice the clay skills they have already learned in our clay classes.  Students have the chance to work in our studio using either hand building techniques or working on a pottery wheel. This is not an instructional class. There will be no instructor. By signing up for Clay Open Studio, you will receive 1/2 a bag of clay, 1 bisque fire, 1 glaze fire, and use of our glazes. We work with midfire clay. No outside clay is allowed (because disastrous things can happen in the kilns!)

Since there is no instruction in Open Studio, some clay experience is necessary. You must have taken one of our clay courses to participate, or have clay experience from elsewhere. If you are throwing work on the wheel, we allow you to come in on the Monday following the first Clay Open Studio date to trim your work.

Rules and Studio Etiquette:

Please allow at least 30 mins of time before the end of Clay Open Studio to clean up your work space. Put items back where you found them/in their proper place. Be sure to put lids back on the glazes after using them. If lids are not properly screwed on, glazes can dry out or spill. Glazes are very expensive and should be used sparingly.

We use buckets for initial rinsing of clay to avoid getting clay down the sink drain. Please do not leave clay on the floor (use a sponge to wipe up). Clean all tools, the wheel, and any work surfaces. Be sure that glaze jar lids are clean and screwed back onto the jar. Leave the space as clean or cleaner than you found it. Remember, we’re a community space, so we need your help to keep things clean!
