Learn to Quilt | Upgrade a Jacket or Bag$75.00 Refresh your wardrobe with personalized creativity! Select a date from the drop-down menu. In this workshop, you will design and sew your own quilt blocks and attach them to a pre-loved item of your choosing (we recommend you bring a tote bag or jacket*). You’ll leave with a one-of-a-kind item you’ll be proud to use or wear. Intuitive quilting is the process of creating a quilt (or quilt block) using your intuition and sense of creativity. You’ll select fabric scraps in shapes and colors that you’re drawn to without too much planning. We’ll move through the process without limits, allowing for creativity to flow freely. This course is for beginners and seasoned quilters alike. If you’ve never used a sewing machine before, you’ll be guided on how to sew simple straight lines, gentle curves and how to appliqué. If you’ve sewn apparel or quilts using patterns before, you’ll be encouraged to put away the “rules” and sometimes rigid guidelines of traditional quilting to tap into a more freeform and intuitive way of quilting. No experience necessary. Ages 16+ welcome! *Please bring items made from woven material only (non-stretch). Sweatshirts and anything made from knit fabric are not suitable for use in this class. San Diego Craft Collective, 2590 Truxtun Rd., Studio 106, SD 92106 • 619.273.3235 • make@sandiegocraft.org This course is hosted indoors, so we suggest: • Dress in layers so you can adjust to the studio temperature. • Bring water/beverage and a snack if you need to be comfortable. • Wear comfortable clothes. • If you are bringing a sewing machine, remember to bring ALL accessories and manual. • PLEASE BRING a pre-loved item of your choosing (we recommend a tote bag or jacket) and any favorite fabric scraps, worn clothes etc, to use. We will also have fabric on hand for you to use. DIRECTIONS: Located in Liberty Station’s Arts District, you can find our studio at the end of the hallway on the 1st floor of the Dorothea Laub Music & Arts Center (Bldg 176) at the corner of Roosevelt & Truxtun, next to The Lot movie theater. There is plenty of free parking. Parking Lot Q is behind our studio — enter via the driveway off Dewey. Across the street in the Vons parking lot, it is also free. If you can’t find us, call or text 619.273.3235. CLASS SIZE: 3 min. If the minimum is not met, you will receive a full refund or credit toward another class. REFUNDS: No refunds for tardiness or no-shows. For a refund (minus a 5% processing fee), you must cancel 7 days before the start of the class. After 7 days, we cannot offer refunds, as materials and supplies have already been purchased. ABOUT THE INSTRUCTOR: Molly Prentzel is a multidisciplinary creative with a special passion for textiles. As a self taught knitter and sewist, you’ll find her wearing something handmade more times than not. Creating garments and useful objects from raw materials, she found, is a transformative skill that draws one closer to self and to nature. Originally from the East Coast, she’s eager to share the joy sewing brings her with the San Diego community and beyond. With a professional background in communications, she’s also sewed professionally for a local sustainable clothing brand here in Ocean Beach.
