Beginners welcome! In this introductory workshop, you’ll learn a fun, accessible method of applying enamel with stencils through simple, easy‑to‑follow demonstrations. The studio provides all tools and materials, and you’ll create a vividly colored pendant or pair of earrings using the same art form practiced by ancient Egyptians, Fabergé, art deco masters, and contemporary designers. You’ll work with copper and pure silver foil over copper as your base, sift powdered glass enamel, use stencils, and learn how to safely fire your piece in a kiln. Choose a premade stencil, bring your own, or get creative with any small flat item (1.5″ or smaller) that has an interesting silhouette or perforations. You’ll have time to complete at least one finished piece, experiment with transparent and opaque colors, and enjoy how approachable the science behind this ancient craft can be.

This workshop is for beginners and anyone wanting a refresher.

Masks and safety goggles will be provided.
This class is appropriate for ages 16 years and older.

ABOUT THE INSTRUCTOR:

Sharon Roncone is an Enamel Artist who fell in love with the vivid colors of enamel and gems. After a successful career as a grown up, (practicing as dentist and Naval officer), she has happily returned to her childhood passion, learning how to create with the colors of enamel and fine stones. To learn these ancient arts she has earned a Graduate Jeweler’s Certificate from GIA (Gemological Institute of America), studied with enamel artists James Carter, Merry-Lee Rae, Jill Tower, and Amy Roper-Lyons. She is excited to bring enameling classes to San Diego students.
